Pafos Town Mini Guide

This charming little harbor town(Pafos or Paphos), on the southwest coast of Cyprus, has an impressive history, well preserved centre and excellent tourist facilities. Paphos is apparently the birthplace and centre of worship of Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love, not surprisingly it is listed as a World Heritage site. From the modern town centre to the picturesque harbour and, stretching across the coastline, lie countless ancient sites. Also along the harbor there are picturesque open air fish restaurants line, a quayside of bright fishing boats and pleasure craft.

Paphos is an ideal place for holidays, retirement and permanent living. Four municipalities administer the region(Pafos), each with its own special attraction for you to discover - the municipalities of Pafos Town, Geroskipou, Pegeia and Polis Chrysochous.

Paphos Town has grown in the last few years to become one of the most popular resorts in Cyprus. Divided into two main areas, the old town being the main shopping area (Pafos) whilst the recently built/developed Tourist Area situated by the sea (Kato Pafos) hosts numerous seafood tavernas, restaurants bars and shops.

After Turkish invasion in 1974, Pafos (like Limassol) rapidly expanded in Tourism . Pafos Town Population now reaches the 50,000. Mainly consists of Greek-Cypriots and a few British etc foreigners permanent legal residents .

The lower part of the town (Tourist Area) is known as Kato Pafos (meaning "in greek:the lower part/area (not altitude/to-the-mountain) town of Pafos) has developed a lot and continues in tourism and it takes all Pafos Town coast , home of the harbour, the fish tavernas, souvenir shops and several beautiful hotels with important archaeological sites around them. Also, to the many attractions there is a modern "Pafos Aquarium" and a big "Pafos Water Park" . A visitor may enjoy the many water-sports on offer, including windsurfing, parasailing and boating, or just relax on the beach and bask in the warm Mediterranean sunshine.

Pafos City has a small International Airport.
